Hood completed her bachelor of visual art and Master of ocular Art at the Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. Her thesis breached topics such as gender politics in art and the cultural mores and taboos surrounding the mission of the male body. Since then she has held many solo exhibitions both in Australia and overseas.
Her work has received much recognition, which includes being a finalist in the 2001 Archibald prize for her watercolour portrait of art lecturer, Metthys Gerber. She proceeded to then produce the prestigious award the following year for her portrait Simon Tedeschi Unplugged, a semi-nude watercolour portrait of the world-renowned young musician.
