I. Introduction
There are 2 types of the 2000 known enzymes. artless and complex. Simple enzymes are composed of proteins. Complex also known as holoenzymes are composed of protein and small organic molecules. Enzymes are categorized by their functions; metabolic enzymes, digestive enzymes, food enzymes, plant based enzymes, and proteoplytic enzymes. Enzymes are necessary for fitting cellular function. The purpose of this lab was to design an experiment to build the action of beano on the macromolecules contained within fowl peas.
II. Materials
A. Materials Used
1. 5 establish tubes
2. Glucose
3. Water
4. Benedicts Reagent
B. Materials Tested
1. Beano
2. Chick peas
C. Methods
1. First labeled 5 test tubes either beano, chick peas, a combination of beano and chick peas, water as out detrimental control and glucose as our po sit cutive control.
2. Placed 5 drops of each in a test tube. In the test tube that combined both beano and chick peas we placed 5 drops of each beginning with a total of 10 drops all together.
3. Let it set up for 20 min.
4. Placed 5 drops of the Benedicts reagent in each test tube.
5. Let all the test tubes sit in boiling water for 3 min.
6. Compared our variables against our corroboratory and negative controls.
III. Results
In this table it will show that Beano contains the enzyme that breaks down fiber into glucose. It will also show that chick peas do not. However, when the beano is mixed with the chick peas it breaks down the fiber in the chick peas thats life-threatening to digest. It turns that fiber thats hard to digest into digestible glucose.
