Jim Crow laws, are a variety of laws created to promote racial segregation mainly in the Southern cites between 1877 and the mid-1960s, represented the legitimization of anti-Black racism (Pilgrim, 2000). Jim Crow laws were of a bleak time in American, a time when African American citizens were blatantly, existencely, unapologetically disenfranchised in every aspect of American society such as voting, dining, public display of affection, most of all associating with white tidy sum from lighting the cigarette of a White person, riding in the same car with a White person and crimson shaking the hand of a White person (Pilgrim, 2000).
Jim Crow Laws were created as a result of politician seeking to de nail down voters that they felt would limit their election. For simulation, in Mississippi the new state constitution required all new voters pay an outrageous poll tax but voters were also required to race a literacy test before being given the pay off to vote. Legislators were out to not allow African Americans their right to vote in public elections, as well as scurvy whites because they felt they would vote for the opposing parties. Tactics such as this are the epitome of Jim Crow Laws back then.
