Shakespeare demonstrates to the reader that Macbeth is partly responsible for his own downfall by illustrating Macbeth is a truly powerful, forceful and possessive character. Throughout the text Macbeth has an excessive need for power later the Witches inform him about being the future King of Scotland, but at no point do the witches tell Macbeth to stamp out anyone in the process of becoming power. Although Macbeth knows consumeing Duncan is so immoral, he can not hold back the urge to call on king, I have no spur/To prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which oerleaps itself, (1:7) This illustrates that although Macbeth knows it is wrong to kill Duncan, he can not stop himself from doing it because he wants to become the king so much, which shows his need for power throughout the text.



Also, Shakespeare presents Macbeth as very forceful, dominant and persuasive during the text, after Macbeth receives the apparitions from the Witches, he enacts that murderers must kill the whole MacDuff family, Seize upon Fife; give to the edge o the stigma/His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls/That trace him in his line. (4:2) This demonstrates that Shakespeare presents Macbeth is very forceful, dominant and persuasive throughout the text, as Macbeth makes the murderers kill the family of MacDuff. All of these characteristics which Macbeth posses in his desire for power lead to Macbeth being partially responsible for his own downfall.
