Cedaw Report

CEDAW Optional Protocol- Free State Province Workshop report locale: Braam Fischer Centre, Mafora community Date: 14 &15 November 2011 Introduction The shop was held over both days with 21 participants, four of which were males. The participants came from dissimilar sections of Mafora community and representing different organizations. The purpose of the workshop was to educate and prove womens leading skills on CEDAW and its optional Protocol and further collate knowledge on experiences that they had encountered with regards to violence against women. The workshop was characterized by discussions, sharing and reflections of personalised experiences by participants. It started off with the have of the participants and facilitators, which was followed by introductions. An ice rink-breaking exercise followed, and thereafter the Tree Exercise followed. Thereafter, the presentations on Cedaw and Optional Protocol, group exercises and discussions followed. At the end of Day 2 of the workshop, recapitulation was done and the workshop was declared closed. Day 1: Opening and welcoming The opening and welcoming was done by Mamello Mahasela from Free State intercommunicate on Violence against women.
