Lesson Topic: The Tundra
Objectives:
Language: Make predictions and ask questions on key concepts prior to listening about the Tundra. Write a sentence/paragraph about a given topic.
heart and soul: Students will identify animals that survive in the Tundra and some that cannot as well as the characteristics of the animals that can survive there.
Learning Strategies: KWL chart, visual support, small group activity, visualization

Materials: Picture vocabulary tease, semantic map, chart paper, Globe, description map,
Motivation: Play an audio of sounds from animals that make their home on the Tundra. Ask students to identify the animals they think they hear. Have them make predictions on where the animals live.
Presentation: Show map of the world (overhead or computing machine projector) call on volunteers to show where the oceans of the world can be found. Students make an O with their hands if they agree or mention one finger if they disagree or have a question. The class fills in the L section of the KWL chart from the forward lesson. The class completes the KW section of a KWL chart with Tundra as the heading. Teacher shows the picture vocabulary cards for Tundra, gives each reciprocation, thence models each word in a sentence. The teacher displays the cards and reads the book The Top and Bottom of the World. Ask the students to make a seals bark when they hear a word from the vocabulary cards in the story.
